Agate Restaurant
About us
Agate Restaurant opened in 2008 as an intimate bistro in downtown Suquamish and quickly became a staple of its community. After ten years of business, the restaurant was ready to grow. It moved into a new building near the ferry terminal and has evolved into one of the best restaurants Bainbridge Island has to offer.
Our team works closely with farmers, foragers, purveyors and producers to source the best ingredients possible and draws inspiration from cuisines around the globe. The result is a contemporary American menu featuring Northwest-raised meats, wild-caught seafood, freshly-milled grains, organic vegetables, carefully selected wines and a creative cocktail list.
Tucked behind the Art Museum, the dining room is a hidden gem amongst downtown traffic and our service team strives to bring warm hospitality to a romantic setting.
As a family owned and operated business, we believe in extending hospitality beyond the walls of our restaurant and work diligently to support and engage with our local community.
Chef Paul was raised on Bainbridge Island and discovered a passion for cooking at a young age. After studying mathematics at Washington State University, he enrolled at the Culinary Institute of America in New York. Attending school with people of various backgrounds inspired him to travel. With the guidance of Jeunes Restaurateurs d'Europe he was able to train in Michelin-starred kitchens throughout Southern Germany.
Upon returning to the States, he spent years working under Thomas Keller, Daniel Boulud and Shea Gallante.
After starting a family, Chef Paul moved back to the Northwest. Here, he combines his diverse experience with local ingredients to craft unique dishes for the menu at Agate.
When Chef Paul isn't in the kitchen, you;ll find him exploring the island with his wife and two daughters, playing hockey, or drinking a Negroni.
